“Broken Hearts”

So many people are hurting in this world.  I know God can heal our broken hearts and our land, but we need to ask.  And we need to believe.  This is the newest of all the songs.  I laid down the piano and vocal at the same time.  I never really wanted to fancy it up with violins or guitars--so I left it simple.

"Feed My Sheep"

We're always encouraged to pray about the hurting and the lost,  but at some point, it is time to get off our knees and do something.   I wanted to encourage people to take that next step.    This one was challenging to sing to a congregation, but it has touched many people.

"I Always Count On You"

I was cut off from the people I loved-- far from home.  I started counting my blessings.  As I did, I found the lyrics for this song.  As soon as I recorded it, I was asked to perform it in several churches.

"A Prayer Ago"

This was written for my sister's wedding, from her point of view.  I am still  amazed how God used her love to inspire me to write my first song.  I added the bridge and the last verse on their wedding anniversary.

"Meant To Be"

A song I call 'my hopeful song,' it is...how I imagine it will be, if it is to be.  I sang this at a dear friend's wedding because it touched their hearts.

"Here's to You"

A song for mom and dad, always.

"Ten Feet Tall"

Was written for my dad, a WWII B-24/B-29 pilot, a career Air Force officer, who was always my quiet hero.

"For Two"

If you can give a song as a gift, do it!  You get back so much more than you could ever give!

"The Little Shepherd"

I was creating a Christmas Album and had already recorded standards and a secular original called 'As Long As You Believe" for my 7 year-old niece to sing with me.   I wanted something special for my nephew to sing with me.  I wrote the song as if he were there, at the manger, from his point of view.  This song still makes me smile.

"Great Big Gospel Band"

I just love gospel music and I would love to hear this song sung by a great group of gospel singers!

"Stand Together"

Just after 'We Are The World," became so popular, I wanted to share a song that included God and encouraged us all in a different way.  I still believe this song can bring people together.  I sang it with the choir in my Nashville church and the fifth graders at Waco Baptist Academy sang it in their musical.  I created a music video of children singing this song that is on youtube.

"Lord, Teach Mama to Fly"

This song was written for a friend who had just lost his mom.  She drove a school bus for over 20 years.   She raised a great family and was loved by everyone.  Although we don’t have many mountains in Central Texas, the idea of mountains always inspires me.

Most of these songs were written and recorded in my very small walk-in closet studios -- first in Dallas, Texas and later in Nashville, Tennessee.  My equipment included a DX-7, Tascam 4 track recorder, tube reverb unit, Alesis drum machine, Ovation Folklore guitar, Hoffner bass, and shure mic.  I created all the tracks, sang and overdubed most of the harmony-- but was joined by nephew Brady Williams (age 8) on “The Little Sheperd.”  Thanks to Adobe Audition, I was able to bump up the eq.  I was not, however, able to remove the tube reverb.  So, welcome to the 1980’s!

I hope my songs bring you joy.

God bless,

Nancy

Nancy Parrish: Great Big Gospel Band

Songwriting, for me, is my way of reaching out and encouraging people thru music. It can soothe a troubled soul and heal a broken heart. I believe a song can make a difference.    So, I offer these heartfelt songs, hoping they will do just that.

In sharing these songs, it is my prayer that a true recording artist will be touched by the message of something I have written and want to share it with an even bigger audience.
